* LEG 1: Göteborg - Vigo - Cádiz (2 700 distansminuter, nm, ca 48 dygn)

Departure Göteborg: 2 October 2005
Arrival Cádiz: 19 November 2005   

The Swedish Ship Götheborg departed from the city of Göteborg on the 2nd of October 2005 after big celebrations. The route to Spain went through the Channel.  The Swedish Ship Götheborg made a stop in Vigo where it was the starting vessel the for Volvo Ocean Race the 12th of November 2005. The passage will take about 30 days.

In Cádiz, which is a historic port, a 12 days stop was made, with official receptions including a press conference, TV coverage and  marketing activities in the programme. The ship wasl also open to the public. After six days the first section of trainees was changed to the second section. The last days before the departure was used for training the new crew members.   

* LEG 2: Cádiz - Recife (3 100 nm, ca 32 dygn)

From Cádiz in the south of Spain The Swedish Ship Götheborg sailed south and then west crossing the Atlantic and passing the equator to Recife in Brazil. The route passed two calm areas. With the trade winds and help by the Canary and North Equatorial sea current the leg will toke about 30 days. Christmas was celebrated at sea, anchored outside the coast of Brazil. New Year 2006, was celebrated in the port of Recife.  

* LEG 3: Recife - Kapstaden (4 400 nm, ca 41 dygn)

First The Swedish Ship Götheborg sailed south along the South American coast. It then turn east against South Africa with the help of the west winds. The passage toke about 40 days.

Cape Town is one of the most beautiful ports in the world and a historic port for East Indiamen. The stopover in Cape Town was a bit longer than the normal port call, about two and a half weeks, depending on the change of the professional crew.  

* LEG 4: Capetown - Port Elizabeth - Fremantle

Port Elizabeth - Fremantle (4 800 nm, 49 days)

28th of February 2006 The Swedish Ship Götheborg departed from Cape Town, rounded the Cape of Good Hope and set course for Port Elizabeth for a two weak long stop befor departing to Fremantle in Western Australia. This is the longest leg of the whole expedition, 4 800 nautical miles. The strong west winds just north of the “roaring forties" give a rather fast transit over the southern Indian Ocean of about 40 days. The Ship arrived to the twin cities Fremantle and Perth on the 13th of May 2006.   

* LEG 5: Fremantle - Jakarta (1 800 nm, ca 24 dygn)

From Western Australia the route continued north to the Sunda strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra. On the voyage The Swedish Ship Götheborg passed the equator and the Christmas island before arriving to the historic port of Batavia, today's Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.   

* LEG 6: Jakarta - Guangzhou - Shanghai

6a: Jakarta - Guangzhou (1 800 nm, ca 20 dygn)

Arrival Guangzhou: 18 July 2006   

On the 28th of June 2006, when the summer monsoon is steady, The Swedish Ship Götheborg continued into the South China Sea. During four weeks the crew keept a sharp look out for pirates and typhoons. With modern equipment and support the dangers can be kept under control. In the middle of July 2006 The Swedish Ship arrived at the so called Tiger Mouth, where the Pearl river enters the sea. After lowering the masts in order to sail under power cables and bridges The Swedish Ship Götheborg was going up river to the historic goal, Guangzhou (Canton). The city gave an outstanding reception for the first Swedish East Indiaman merchant vessel sighted for nearly 200 years.   

6b: Guangzhou - Shanghai  (900 nm, ca 12 dygn)

Arrival Shanghai: 29 August 2006    

After a couple of fantastic weeks of celebrations in Guangzhou The Swedish Ship Götheborg sailed northward through the Formosa strait to Shanghai before the monsoon changed. The trip toke about 10 days and the Götheborg arrived in Shanghai in the end of August 2006. In Shanghai The Swedish Ship Götheborg was used for business meetings and culture events. Shanghai is a sister city of the city of The Swedish Ship Götheborg, which guaranteed a sterling visit.   

* LEG 7: Shanghai - Singapore

7a: Shanghai - Hong Kong (900 nm, ca 10 dygn)
Departure Shanghai: 29 October 2006
Arrival Hong Kong: 29 November 2006    

After a two months stay in Shanghai the ship departed frorm Shanghai. First stop was on the island Zhoushan outside Shanghai where the ship was taken in to a shipyard for a full inspection of the rigging and bottom painting in a dry dock. After two weeks The Swedish Ship was ready to start its home voyage to Göteborg.

The first offical portcall on the home voyage was made in Hong Kong where the ship was very apreciated and had a lot of visiters. The Ship stayed in Hong Kong for almost two weeks.

7b: Hong Kong - Singapore (1 450 nm, ca 21 dygn)
Departure Hong Kong: 12 December 2007
Arrival Singapore: 30 December 2006      

The Swedish Ship left Hong Kong on the 12 of December 2006 and set out for Singapore, which has one of the world's largest ports. The Swedish Ship stayed for two weeks in Singapore and was celebrating New Year.

 
* Leg 8: Singapore - Chennai - Djibouti

8a: Singapore - Chennai (Madras)

Departure Singapore: 14 January 2007
Arrival Chennai: 31 January 2007   

The Swedish Ship left Singapore after two weeks. The leg between Singapore and Chennai has been an excellent one with nice weather and lovely sailing. The ship reached on the  31st of January 2007 Chennai on the east coast of India.

* LEG 8b: Chennai (Madras) - Djibouti

Departure Chennai: 10 February 2007
Arrival Djibouti: 14 March 2007

The Swedish Ship left Chennai  in India for Sri Lanka where the plan was to bunker for food and fuel. This turned out to be very difficult due to weather. The ship left for Djibouti and thans to good wind the ship reached Djibouti in time. The ship made a three day long portcall in Djibouti, taking in bunker and changed volonteers.

* LEG 9: Djibouti - Alexandria - Nice

Arrival Nice: 17 April 2007

The Swedish Ship left Djibouti and sailed in the Read Sea and catched a convoy through the the Suez Channel. Then followed three day long stop in Alexandria in Egypt arranged by the  Region of Västra Götaland in western Sweden. The ship had a nice sailing cross the Mediterranean to Nice in Franc.

* LEG 10: Nice - London

Departure Nice: 24 April 2007
Arrival London: 19 May 2007

After a eight day long stop in Nice The Swedish Ship sailed towards Gibraltar before reaching London. The ship arrived in London on May 19th for a two-week visit. During arrival the ship passed Tower Bridge & London Pool before berthing.

* LEG 11: London - Göteborg (600 nm, 7 dygn)

London was the last stopover before The Swedish Ship after this amazing and fascinating Expedition to China returned to her home port, the City of Göteborg. On the 9th of June 2007 it was time for a Swedish East Indiaman to be seen returning to a Swedish port after a fantastic and adventures expedition to China. The Swedish Ship was welcomed by thousands and thousands of proud people. There were big festivities just as great as when the ship left for her great expedition nearly two years ago.
