SOIC AB - Activities and Business Concept

SOIC AB was formed in 1993 to manage, keep and develop shipyard-, shipbuilding-, and shipping activities included in The Swedish Ship Götheborg project.

The Swedish Ship is built according to the main dimensions to the hull and rig of a Swedish East Indiaman that sank in the inlet of Göteborg harbor in September, 1745.

The ship is approved for ocean sailing as a research- and schoolship by the Swedish government. Some changes from the historical outline have been done, but the ambition was,  to build the ship as far as possible in accordance with the original.

The Swedish Ship Götheborg reached China on the 18th of July 2006 on it´s first expedition. The Ship stayed four months in China and will soon begin to set sail to return to Sweden taking a different route throgh the Suez Channel and Mediterenian sea, with a stopover in London before the historic moment when the Ship return for the first time in over 250 years from an expedition to China.

The ship demand

The ship will sail as a "SPECIAL PURPOSE SHIP" according to the resolution A.534(13) and the ship is built to keep a crew of eighty persons. Read more about the crew.

The ship will be able to keep food provisions for sixty day at sea,  and reserves will be kept for an additional thirty days. Read more about the expedition to China.

The ship will be provided with as little modern technique as possible although it will reach the demands of safety regulations and therefore have less area for cargo and goods.
