Age limit
To participate you must be at least 18 years old. We do not have an upper limit but the medical demands usually put a limit at the age of 65.

Medical demands
To participate on the expedition we demand that you sign a medical certificate were you assure that you are in good physical and psychological health and fulfill the medical requirements we have in order to be able to contribute in the work aboard. It might be good to know that there might be a hindrance to participate if you have or have had any of the following:

• Long-term infection diseases
• Metabolite diseases
• Diabetic
• Cardiac diseases
• Lung diseases or breathing disorder (including asthma, allergies and tuberculoses)
• Skin diseases (including eczema and allergies)
• Stomach- and intestine diseases
• Psychological deceases (including alcoholism, drug addiction, nervous difficulties, and depression)
• Skeleton-, joint- or muscle diseases
• Congenital defects
• Urinary- or kidney diseases (including prostate diseases)
• Blood diseases
• Nerve diseases (including multiple sclerosis and epilepsy)
• Eye- or ear diseases
• Tumour diseases
• Other (long-term or serious diseases)
• Bodily injury
• Food- and some pharmaceutical allergies, and other allergic conditions were there are symptoms of breathing disorder.
• Pregnancy
• Heavily overweight
• Abuse of pharmaceutics or drugs
• Dental problems

 
Hard physical and psychological work
Aboard the ship teamwork is essential.  The ship has few mechanical aids which means that there is a lot of muscle power that needs to be used, especially with the sails and rig. A trip with the ship will be challenging both physically and psychological. You will spend a lot of time at the sea with no way of going ashore.
 
No specially adapted meals
Because of the limited storing space aboard we will not offer any specially adapted meals like vegetarian or meals that take allergies in consideration.

Work in high altitude
The old fashioned rig requires that a large part of the crew is needed when handling the sails and rig. Therefore there is a requirement that everyone has to be able to climb up and be of service in the rig. It is natural to feel discomfort in the beginning when working at high altitude, but most people get used to this quite fast. Persons who are aware of feeling dizziness or discomfort already at low altitudes should not be participating since they are a security risk both for themselves and to others aboard the ship.

A flexible attitude
The building of the ship and her expeditions are certainly a unique and living project. This means that adjustments of the routines and procedures most likely will be needed. For you this means that you have to be flexible and have indulgence with eventual changes.

Costs for sailing

The cost for sailing on future expeditions is not yet decided. The fee is required for covering direct costs that your participation means for this project.

The fee is taken to cover costs for:

• Food
• Clothes
• Mustering fees

Finance alternatives
You can finance your participation in two different ways:

• Own finance — You pay yourself for participation.
• Corporate sponsor — You let a private company sponsor your participation.

Payment
You confirm you participation by paying at latest in 10 days from when you get your admission.

Admission
SOIC will continuously be recruiting persons from our database of applicants for the upcoming expeditions. Admission will be sent out through mail.

Time for consideration
The ones who are given positive admission will get 10 days of time for consideration before a definitive and binding answer must be sent to SOIC.
