The festivities continue. The Swedish Embassy had arranged a dinner on board for special invitees and ship representatives. At the same time the Port Elizabeth Yacht Club had invited half the crew to a barbecue evening. The other half was invited to the same event on Friday. The Club´s premises and harbour are located in the great port, so going there was quite easy. Some rowed to the Club in our boat Mathias, launched and baptized today. Others were transported with our MOB boat and some took a walk.

Earlier today we were visited by school classes between 0900 and 1300. They all wear a school uniform and line up orderly, without the teachers having to tell them so. We were also able to welcome a pupil in a wheel-chair and show her around, not only on deck but also with some help below on gun-deck, a service noted by her school to be told in the school paper. Furthermore the two leading newspapers in Port Elizabeth had set aside half their front pages for pictures and stories about the Swedish Ship Götheborg. In the afternoon the ship was open to paying visitors and as usual there were a lot of them, guided around by all deck hands on duty.

Several crew members who had the afternoon off took the opportunity to visit a beach in the southwest part of the town, with light golden sand continuing in the water as far as one could see. Those who have tomorrow off are discussing their opportunities - go for the beach or visit an elephant park?

Photo opportunity - there is a lot to take photos of now that we have reached the port of Nelson Mandela Bay.
