From the logbook: 0700 pilot on board, going by motor to the port. 0830 well moored Shenjiamen Wharf.
Comments: During our passage to the port we were escorted by four beautifully decorated junks. As we are slowly gliding into the harbour, salutes are fired, first from our starboard guns and then from the port guns. Thousands of people along the quays, waving. Parades and traditional Chinese dancing in fantastic robes. Fireworks from one of the junks, close to us on port side. When moored the captain, the chief and the first mate are led to a rostrum with the town nobilities. The there is a fantastic procession with people in all possible traditional Chinese robes. Also acrobats performing and lots of spectators - what a reception!
Directly after this there is a reception for specially invited guests and the standing crew. Directly after that, “Open ship".
