Sunday and no work except essential. The traditional Swedish skiing competition “Vasaloppet" is on right now, so we also arranged a “Vasaloppet" on board. Our ship´s carpenter hade made short skis, the galley offered blueberry soup and buns, and six heats produced as many winners. Finally, with the crowds shouting with joy, the grand finale was won by a decided deck-hand. Weather was excellent and one would only hope that this was also the case in Sweden. In the afternoon a film was shown on gundeck. A crew member celebrating his birthday was presented with a cake, apart from the standard ration.
