From the logbook: Dock completely dry at 0900. Inspection and cleaning of bottom. The galley is being painted. Engine staff checking sea valves, cleaning waste water tanks.

Comments: Buses from hotel down to the ship. Mustering stations at 0700. Tasks distributed between the work teams. 10 deckhands sharing watches, the rest working daytime or till the task is completed, six days a week. We plan to do nearly all work ourselves, without support from the wharf.

The wharf is situated on a small island in a beautiful part of the archipelago. It is genuine Chinese countryside. But it is also well developed and the standard of our hotel is first-rate. Buses and cars are all of the newest models. It will be most interesting to spend two weeks on this island and hopefully have the opportunity of making some travels.
