This will be our last 24 hours moored in Cape Town. Water has been taken in and at about four p.m. a lorry brought the remaining provisions to our ship. Vegetables were washed and taken aboard, to be brought swiftly below deck with the other perishables. The leave-taking atmosphere is felt more and more. Those who have not had time to make their excursions around Cape Town have missed their last chance now.
In the afternoon the clouds came in increasingly lower and the rain arrived at about five p.m. It was not like a Scandinavian rain, but rather a rain with very small droplets that seemed to materialize out of nowhere and initially not feeling very wet. But as the rain got increasingly dense everyone went under cover, the public visiting the Swedish Ship Götheborg as well as people strolling on the quay taking photographs of us and the sea lions. The latter however preferred to take cover in the sea.
It has been chillier today and the temperature has been more endurable also below deck. But the engine-room is certainly keeping up its temperature, 30 degrees centigrade today. We have invited the crew of the sailing ship Picton Castle to visit us, this our last evening in Cape Town. They invited us to a very enjoyable evening a few days ago and we all look forward to returning their hospitality. Weather permitting we hope to mingle on sundeck.
