Early morning we saw very clearly on the coast the skyline of Recife with a great number of high skyscrapers. A large breakwater along the entire harbour and then inside it the town and harbour. Visited in the morning by various small boats that circled the East Indiaman.

At lunchtime a small delegation of gentlemen representing ship-broker, agent, customs and immigration police visited us. The check on all passports and discharge books had to be continued ashore, since the official in question became a bit sea-sick. Agent and others in good spirits and ship cleared without problems.

All went well on the way in. A salute of eight gunshots were skilfully fired by our gunner and judging from the reaction, the town´s doves received a reminder of the ship´s arrival that will be hard forgotten. It took some time, though, getting the ship to the quay. The hindrance was probably a small sandbank and our escorting tug had to make a little push. When moored all was well, however, and we were gently rolling by the quay. The show, coloured stripes from the yard-arms and a singing crew really drew attention to us. Following that our captain and supercargo went ashore to be greeted by representatives of the town and administration. The East Indiaman´s three Brazilian students were much acclaimed by the crowd and spirits were really high. Everything was recorded by a number of representatives of the media and two helicopters from Brazilian TV. So there´s no secret that we have arrived in Recife. Crew members not on watch were seen disappearing in all directions with expectations in their eyes. Recife, here we come.
