The first real day at sea after leaving Brazil. There is not much of a sea, but sometimes we have some swell. To say that everyone on board is feeling all right would be to exaggerate and a rather large part of the new crew have a reduced appetite at the moment. Well, those who have been on board a long time can inform them that sea-sickness will vanish - eventually.

Most of the day has passed making the new crew familiar with the ship. Inspecting all parts of it, getting into routines, understanding and learning all sails and how they are set. It is quite a challenge. Every here and there lessons were given the new crew, to get them into things as soon as possible. That enables us to set more sails and consequently increase our speed. Toda, however, we are going by motor with an adverse wind, hoping for better winds more to the south.

Also other crew members are doing their best to get into the routines at sea. The technical department have instructed their new orderly student about the systems on board. The purser department have secured the last of the provisions taken on board yesterday. Unfortunately a case of bad primary produce has been detected. The fish intended for dinner yesterday was not fit for food and had to be discarded. It had presumably been thawed and frozen several times on its way to our ship. A complaint has been sent to the ship chandler. Also other purser stores like the armoury have had an overhaul after the port-call. So all is well. We are just waiting for fair winds.
