Comments:
Following yesterday´s toil with taking aboard and stowing provisions the great day of departure from Fremantle arrived. Most of the crew seems to be longing for the offing. After a chilly but clear morning there was a lot of activity on the quay. Many spectators had gathered well in advance, on the quay and on both moles. Departure was set to 1200 and preparations were going on unto the last moment, including the crew training their singing talents. Following speeches of thanks and blessings, and songs by the crew, the Swedish Ship Götheborg left the quay accompanied by bagpipes and a cannon salute. Many small boats were following us for some time, later on replaced by a surfaced Australian submarine. Slowly the skyscrapes of Perth dissappear under the horizon on starboard side, as we head northwest.
