Comments:
The closer we get to Australia, the more we are discussing what to do ashore. Many of course talk of “real coffee", others of Australian beer, others yet of candies. Many are looking forward to a pizza but what most of us are longing for is various kinds of fresh fruit. We have not had any bananas on board and that is of course a favourite. Today we were served the last potatoes taken aboard in Port Elizabeth. There are still four water melons on board the Swedish Ship Götheborg and at the current level of consumption they will last us until May 1st. They are as fresh as the freshest of water!
Speaking of water: the consumption of fresh water is allowed to rise. We have enough fuel left to get us to quay, so the production of fresh water is also covered. When the chief gave his OK to shower more than “two pushes on the button", the use of the showers increased and has presumably passed6 cubic metresper 24 hours.
And speaking of bananas: for those sleeping in cots the freedom of movement is obviously limited and that also seems to have affected their dreaming. One deckhand told she had dreamt she was dressed as a banana and was also convinced that the cot was the cause. Another deckhand told he had dreamt he was the sausage in a hotdog. One may wonder what Freud would have said about these dreams.
