Comments:
First fish caught, a tuna of a few kilos on our captains line. It went to the galley to be weighed, measured and cooked. Also a shark was spotted today, at least its dorsal fin.

We make our own fresh water on board. This is done by so-called reverse osmosis and is energy-intensive, implying diesel fuel is consumed. To keep this consumption down, our chief has announced that we should not consume more than5 cubic metresof fresh water per 24 hours. When it was at its hottest during our voyage from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth the consumption was more than8 cubic metresper 24 hours. We then had to introduce limitations to the showering on board and that quickly resulted in an acceptable consumption. But now it is up again and to stimulate restraint every day´s consumtion is posted on a very popular place on board the Swedish Ship Götheborg. It is on gundeck where we have a chart of the Indian Ocean. On that, day by day, we can see our noon position.

Trial transmission in the morning of an ECG to Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg did not work. Also our e-mail connection was down. Our captain got in touch with our shipping company via the satellite telephone and was informed about the cause, a broken telephone cable, caused by a farmer who had started his spring plowing. If this also was the cause behind our failure to make contact with Sahlgrenska is however not clear.
