Comments:
A bit overcast in the morning but by and by the sky was clear again and it has been a lovely day with beautiful sailing. Can life be better than this?
Tonight, however, we are meeting a weather front with some strong winds, just to tell us that we are in “the roaring forties". The forecast says it is to pass us rather quickly and then the wind will turn to SW, which means we are going to “slip" a bit to the north again. But everything must be lashed securely and the fiddle canvas around the bunks must be rigged. We have also prepared ourselves by reefing the sails we intend to have up. It is important to do so in time and be ready before the wind increases. Things were different in the olden days when one had 60 men more to do the work.
Apart from that, maintenance work on board goes on at an unabated pace and new smart additions are manufactured and put in place. The sailmakers are working around the clock to put new bolt-ropes on the mainsail and there are also quite a few deck-hands sitting here and there with a piece of canvas, practicing the noble art of sailmaking.
