Application process

Sailing on the Swedish Ship Götheborg is the experience of a lifetime. This is real sailing. A genuine art, but above all it’s about the encounters with the people aboard. Seize the opportunity to join us on a voyage, you absolutely won’t regret it. Read about the application process here.

Application system

Whether you would like to take part in a sailing leg or a working weekend, all applications must be submitted via the SOIC application system. The system enables you to keep your profile updated and track your progress in the application process. The tool itself is called PAAM, but SOIC is always responsible for any dispatches. Acceptance decisions and information are sent by e-mail from the address application@soic.se. The application system is in English to make it accessible to as many people as possible.

Application process

1. Set up an account

The first time you apply you will need to set up an account in SOIC’s application system. Your e-mail address is your username and you then choose your own password. You log in using the same account details each time you want to apply or track your progress.

2. Complete your profile

To apply, you must first complete your profile. To begin with you can choose between applying for ‘Sailing legs’ or ‘Land events’. This is because you do not need to complete as much information for a land event, such as a working weekend, as for a sailing leg. If you would like to apply for both, please complete the information regarding:

– Personal details
– Contact details
– Address
– How you found out about us
– Previous experience
– Personal letter

3. Application

As soon as your account has been created, you can apply for ”Sailing Legs” or ”Land Events”. Click on ”Apply” and then apply for the events you wish to participate in. Once your application has been registered, you will receive a confirmation email listing all events you have applied for. If clicking on ”Overview” a list of your applications will appear.

4. Selection process

If no deadline for the application is specified, admission is an ongoing process. It makes the process easier if you have filled in your profile as completely as possible.

5. Acceptance and payment

If you are accepted, you will be notified by e-mail. Your status at this stage will be ”Accepted”. If you have applied for a role or event for which a payment is necessary, you will be asked to confirm your position by making the payment. The first part of the payment is a registration fee and the second is the balance payment. More information regarding the payment can be found in our payment agreement and cancellation rules.

Once the payments have been fulfilled, your status will automatically change to ”Paid”. Your position has now been confirmed. If you would like to decline your position, please click on ”Cancel position”. If you have not been accepted, you will be notified by e-mail and your status will be change to ”Cancelled”.

If you are on the waitling list, you will be notified by e-mail and your status will change to “Waiting List”.

6. Information

Once your space is confirmed, you will receive further information about the sailing leg and/or land event you have applied for. If you are taking part in a sea leg, you will need to complete your profile with information about:

– Place of birth
– Passport number
– Whether you have a discharge book
– Next of kin
– T-shirt size
– Photograph (e.g. passport photo or similar)
