On the 19th of August the Swedish Ship Götheborg is sailing, along with over 600 other tall ships and thousands of boats in the parade into the world’s largest maritime festival, SAIL Amsterdam 2015. The parade attracts hundreds of thousands of people that gather along the Noordzeekanaal to take part in the festivities. SAIL Amsterdam is organized every five years and this year is expected to attract over 1.7 million visitors.
The festival was organized for the first time in 1975, as part of the city of Amsterdam’s 700 year anniversary. The event was popular and became a recurring marine festival, which has evolved from being a celebration of Amsterdam city into a celebration for everyone. Now SAIL Amsterdam is the largest marine festival in the world and also the largest event in the world. This year the event is organized for the ninth time. Götheborg also appeared at SAIL Amsterdam 2010 and had over 7000 visitors on board per day, which beat the old record from China.
The ship will be at the dock in the center of Amsterdam and open to the public and have business arrangements on board. On Sunday, August 23, we set sail towards Britain.
