Every five years Bremerhaven welcomes tall ships from around the world to Sail Bremerhaven, the International Windjammer Festival. SAIL Bremerhaven is one of Europe’s largest marine festivals with hundreds of thousands of visitors. The Swedish Ship Götheborg took part in the festival when it was organized in 2010 and will return to Bremerhaven during this summers tour, to participate in SAIL Bremerhaven 2015.
Bremerhaven is a city with a history of shipbuilding. Between the years 1835 and 1927, 250 large, magnificent ocean sailing vessels were built here, two of which are still sailing on the oceans; the Russian “Krusenstern” and the Norwegian “Statsraad Lehmkuhl”. The maritime city of Bremerhaven is called the sailing ships capital of Germany. The festival SAIL Bremerhaven is not only a tourist attraction, but is also an event that is connected to the city’s maritime history.
This year SAIL Bremerhaven is arranged between 12-16 August. The Swedish Ship Götheborg arrives in Bremerhaven on the 12th of August and stays during the entire festival. During the visit, the ship will be open to the public.
