One of the largest events this year is Les Tonnerres de Brest, a major French maritime festival which is held every four years and is celebrating its 20th jubilee this year. The French city of Brest will open up and welcome sailing vessels and boats from around the world.

The Swedish Ship Götheborg will launch the event and sail in surrounded by hundreds of boats and other vessels. She will also be part of a re-enactment of French explorer and naval officer Jean Francoise de Lapérouse’s departure for his Pacific Ocean expedition in the late 18th century, a spectacle involving almost 200 actors.

The Götheborg will be mooring in Brest on 13 July and will then be open to the public up to and including 18 July. On her departure on 19 July, the Swedish Ship Götheborg will take part in The Great Brest-Douarnenez Parade before sailing on to Bremerhaven in Germany.
