SOIC’s tailor’s workshop has been making 18th century style costumes for the Swedish Ship Götheborg’s crew and personnel since 1998. The costumes are worn on official visits in ports and at public events. Inspiration for the clothes and fabrics comes from the few existing patterns. Officers and supercargoes liked to follow the fashion on terra firma, while the deckhands’ clothing was similar to peasant costumes. There was no uniform as such in those days. The costumes are not direct replicas, but interpretations of how officers and crew may have looked.
