Conditions

I am suffering from an allergy. Can I sail along?
Unfortunately, we cannot have people suffering from sever allergies on board. We are only able to offer glutenfree and lactosefree meals for people suffering from gluten and lactose intolerance.

Why can't I sail along when I'm suffering from an allergy?
There are several reasons why we do not allow people suffering from different allergies to sail aboard the Swedish Ship Götheborg. These include the limited storage space on board, the risk that an allergy sufferer will, in some way eat allergenic food while the ship is far from land and medical care.

Can I sail along when if I’m a vegetarian?
As a vegetarian, you'll be able to sail with the Swedish Ship Götheborg. (Lacto Ovo vegeterian.)

I am suffering from diabetes. Can I sail along?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to sail along when you are suffering from diabetes.

I can't make it to sail along a whole sailing leg. Is it possible to sign on/off at other dates?
No, the date of signing on and signing off applies to the entire crew and unfortunately we cannot take into account individual requests.

How do I apply?
In order to sail with The Swedish Ship Götheborg, you must first create an account in our recruitment application. You will find the link to the recruitment application on our website:

I want to give away a sailing leg to a loved one. How do I do it?
If you want to give away a sailing leg to a loved one, you must first create an account in our recruitment app. The account shall be created in the name of the loved one and with his or her personal information but with your email address. All communication is by email, so if you will enter your loved one's email address during registration, it would reveal the surprise. But, as soon as your loved one has received the gift, you should change the email address into his/hers. In this way, all future communication will be made directly to your loved one.

I've filled in my details, but I can't log in. Why?
After you have filled your information, a verification email will be sent to the email address you entered upon registration. Click on the link to verify your email address. Please note that the email may have ended up in your trash basket, so check it out!

I haven't received a verification email. Why?
If the verification email is not in your inbox, it may have ended up in the trash basket. Look at that. If you can't find it in the trash basket, you may have entered the wrong email address either. Send an email to sailing@soic.se for investigation.

 

Application

Has my application been filed?

If your application has been provided to us, a confirmation email has been sent to the email address you have entered. The confirmation email can sometimes end up in the trash basket so check this too.

I haven't received a confirmation email. Has my application been filed anyway?

You see the status of your application by logging in via https://soic.paamapplication.co.uk/soic/ and then click "Overview". Each sailing leg corresponds to a row and we have received your application if it has the status "Applied".

 

Selection

How are the deckhands being selected?

We strive for gender balance, ethnic and cultural diversity but also mixed sailing experiences. The deckhands are assigned to the sail legs according to these criteria, but also by personal suitability. If you have helped a lot during weekdays, work weekends or spent a lot of time on your application, it will most likely affect your chances of being selected.

We are two people who want to sail together. How do we do this?

It is not possible to apply in pairs without your applications being processed separately. However, it is recommended to include the name of the co-applicant in your application. In that case we will try to take your wishes into consideration as much as possible.

When do I get an answer to my application?

Admission notices are sent out on an ongoing basis and vary between sailing legs. You will be contacted by email as soon as you have been accepted for a specific sailing leg. Right now we are almost done with leg 1 and leg 2, we only have a few spots left in setain categories.

A loved one has received a response to his application, but I have not heard anything. Does that mean I haven't come along?

The fact that you have not been told does not mean that you will not have a place on board. The admission notices are sent out in stages and when the announcements are sent out can vary between the different stages. If you have been accepted, you will receive an admission notice sent to your email and your status is changed to "Accepted". If you haven't been accepted, you will automatically end up on the reserve list, get an email about this and your status changes to the "Waiting list".
