The East Indiaman Götheborg is a historical visitor’s destination in the city of Gothenburg and a ship loaded of experiences. A genuine working ship with a vibrant history, scarred by harsh storms and marked by thousands upon thousands of nautical miles on the seven seas. Here, visitors get to know everything from captivating stories to the tremendous art of shipbuilding in a contemporary 18th century environment during a guided tour on board. On weekends you can visit the ship for our general tours, during other times you can pre-book a tour. The ship can only be visited in the company of a guide. Warmly welcome onboard!

Drive towards Hisingen and Norra Älvstranden, Eriksberg. Turn into Östra Eriksbergsgatan, and then Mimergatan. Set your GPS to Mimergatan 6. Parking is available at Hotel 11 and in the multi-storey car-park at Östra Eriksbergsgatan.

GUIDED TOURS

Our knowledgeable and inspiring guides will take you on a journey from the 18th century Swedish East Indian Company, when a small country became part of a bigger world, to the unique construction of today’s East Indiaman and its adventurous expeditions worldwide. Welcome aboard and experience a fascinating history in a unique environment.

A guided tour is about an hour long. Tours are offered in both Swedish and English.

We offer guided tours for companies of all sizes, associations, schools, and private individuals. SCHOOL VISITS

Visiting the East Indiaman Götheborg is an exciting experience for children of all ages. On the pier you will be met by a guide dressed in 18th century era clothing whom will take you on a fascinating adventure through the past and present of the East Indiaman Götheborg.

Over the course of an hour you get to hear about the history of the Swedish Eastern India Company, about life aboard during the adventurous voyages of the 18th century, and the construction of the East Indiaman Götheborg and its expeditions. It’s an inspiring tale that could be linked to several school subjects such as History and Geography.

Accessibility

 

We want to enable as many people as possible to visit the East Indiaman Götheborg. Please let us know in advance if you have any special needs. Unfortunately, for various reasons, the ship is not adapted for disabled persons.

STEEP LADDERS

Please note that the steps down to the ship (the ladders) are relatively steep.

ESCORTS

Escorts of disabled persons may take part of the guided tours free of charge.

LANGUAGEs

We have guided tours in Swedish and English. If you are interested in a guided tour in another language or in sign language, please contact cecilia.bothorp@soic.se

ANIMALS

Animals are not permitted aboard the ship, with an exception for guide dogs.

STROLLERS

Strollers may not be taken aboard the ship, and may be left in the shop during the tour. There are baby-changing facilities on the pier.
